Sophia focuses on helping her small business clients develop practical and strategic legal solutions. What she enjoys most about her practice is working one-on-one with some of the most dynamic and ambitious women Colorado has to offer.

She has wide ranging experience in advising clients with all phases of the business cycle, including issues related to initial formation and capitalization, hiring and employment, intellectual property and branding, and preparing and negotiating contracts. Sophia has drafted a broad range of commercial agreements, including employment agreements, marketing, advertising and endorsement agreements, master services agreements, confidentiality and non-disclosure agreements, and joint venture agreements. She has also advised clients on the legal implications of outdoor recreation liability, hiring, strategic plans, and data collection. Additionally, Sophia has assisted clients with U.S. and Canadian product recall compliance requirements.

While she focuses on serving female business owners and entrepreneurs, her practice encompasses various industries, including retail, outdoor industry, health and wellness, fitness, technology, food and beverage, consumer services, and more.

Prior to founding Lenz Law, Sophia worked as attorney in both the private and public sector. While serving as associate counsel for a long-standing Boulder firm she counseled small to medium businesses, with a focus on outdoor industry companies. As an attorney for the Colorado Attorney General’s Office, Sophia counseled and represented government agencies. With a focus on representing the government in unemployment insurance cases against Colorado businesses. In addition, Sophia served as a law clerk to two female Judges, the Honorable Judge Bakke and the Honorable Chief Judge Bailin. Her experience in the private and public sector means that she is not only well versed in business law and commercial transactions, but in the government’s regulation of businesses. She leverages her background to assist clients in developing strategies that promote growth and avoid government inquiries.

Representative Experience

  • Advised adventure travel company on compliance with U.S. and E.U. data collection and privacy laws, and drafted website terms and privacy policy for company’s booking site.
  • Counseled physiotherapy clinic on bringing on its first outside physical therapist and drafted Independent Contractor Agreement for new therapist.
  • Counseled non-profit conservation group on liability issues associated with recreational activities and prepared necessary liability waivers.
  • Counseled mobile clothing business with entity selection and licensing requirements.
  • Advised psychotherapy practice in expanding services to include rock climbing therapy and implementing the necessary liability protections.
  • Drafted NDA restricting web design company from sharing client’s proprietary information.
  • Advised online body products shop on web marketing compliance, data collection, and privacy issues.
  • Secured reversal of USPTO Trademark Registration Refusal for food company.
  • Counseled client through a partnership dispute, to reach a successful resolution and a continued working relationship with partner.
  • Counseled companies and individuals on the removal of defamatory statements posted on Facebook, Twitter, and customer review websites, like Yelp and the Better Business Bureau.
  • Product Recall Compliance- assisted outdoor industry companies in complying with U.S. and Canadian government product recall process.
  • Counseled California based company on contracting a Colorado University employee and evaluated Independent Contractor Agreement for compliance with Colorado law.
  • Redrafted Master Services Agreement between web development company and client to provide client with greater protection and certainty.
  • Reviewed and amended international distribution agreement for cycling company beginning sales in Australia.
  • Drafted event partnership agreement between non-profit company and climbing gym for an educational program hosted by non-profit at gym.
  • Prepared Retail/Dealer Agreement for craft fly-fishing rod business.
  • Advised European company on OSHA and FCC regulations as company looked to bring a device to the U.S. market.
  • Assisted outdoor company in settling a lawsuit brought against them for allegedly failing to make their website compliant with the American Disabilities Act.
  • Won independent contractor misclassification suit before the Colorado Court of Appeals (As an attorney for the Colorado Attorney General’s Office).
